Coaching Roles and Requirements
We have two types of coaching roles within our organization: Practice Only Coaches and Full USA Hockey Coaches. Please review the requirements for each role below to ensure you are properly certified.
Once you complete your USA Hockey Registration, please send to the Hocky Director and Registrar.
Practice Only Coaches:
Practice Only Coaches:
- Register as a Coach with USA Hockey:
Cost: $51
Duration: Approximately 15 minutes, all online
Validity: 1 year

- Complete the USA Hockey Background Screen Program:
Cost: $30
Duration: Approximately 30 minutes, all online
Validity: 2 years

- Complete the USA Hockey SafeSport Program Training Module:
Cost: Free
Duration: 1-2 hours for the initial "SafeSport Core Training," 30 minutes for the annual "SafeSport Refresher Course"
Validity: Must be taken every year

- Complete the Ohio Concussion Training Module:
Cost: Free
Duration: Approximately 30 minutes, all online
Validity: 3 years

- Comply with Ohio Lindsay’s Law about Sudden Cardiac Arrest:
Cost: Free
Duration: Approximately 20 minutes, all online
Validity: 1 year
Full Rostered USA Hockey Coaches
In addition to the above requirements, Full USA Hockey Coaches must complete the following:
- Complete the USA Hockey Age-Specific Module for the Level You Are Coaching:
- Cost: $10
- Duration: Approximately 6-7 hours, all online
- Validity: No expiration date

- Complete the USA Hockey Coaching Education Program for the Level You Are Coaching:
- Cost: $60
- Duration: Approximately 6-7 hours, of which 1-2 are on-ice
- Validity: Must progress from Level 1 to Level 3 annually, renew Level 3 every 2 years for 6 years, then progress to Level 4
